One of the better things to have happened in talent acquisition and corporate culture in general over the past few years has been the attention paid to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Companies have invested talent, time, and treasure into developing programs around the issues, as well as into marketing that talks about how they're a diverse and inclusive place to work and grow a career.
It all sounds good - on paper. But... when you dive in, you start seeing the gaps between what marketing is telling the world, and the reality. And, sadly, the gaps between the brand perception they're encouraging and the reality of their corporate cultures are often pretty stark.
As part of our ongoing dive into how recruiting works (and how it doesn't), we caught up with one of the leading experts on the topic of DEI in talent acquisition and corporate culture: Stacey Gordon.
If you're not familiar with Stacey, she is worth getting to know. She's the founder and leader of ReWork Work, a company on a mission to reduce bias in global talent acquisition and management. Her Amazon bestseller UNBIAS: Addressing Unconscious Bias at Work, is a must-have resource for all employers, managers, and HR professionals seeking to create and sustain healthy, inclusive, and equitable workplace environments. She's one of LinkedIn's Top Voices in Gender Equity, as well as the creator of Unconscious Bias, the most-taken LinkedIn Learning course in 2021.
Stacey is a globally recognized keynote speaker, leadership consultant, and DEI strategist, and has provided subject matter expertise to Harvard Business Review, SHRM, Fast Company, Skillsoft, Forbes, NPR Radio, BBC Radio, and many other leading organizations. She consults regularly with leadership at Fortune 100 companies, including companies such as Walmart, GE, and Hewlett Packard.
