Biography, Tom Atkinson

Born and raised in Bergen County, NJ, Tom started his career in hospitality management and was one of the youngest General Managers with the Uno's Chicago Grill restaurant chain, where he served as GM for the South Street Seaport and Secaucus, NJ locations. He was also selected to be part of the opening team of the San Juan, Puerto Rico location.

Having excelled at operations for a corporate chain, Tom Went on the lead the Normandy Restaurant Group where he was a partner in 4 NYC locations, including the flagship Tre Pomodori on East 34th Street In Manhattan.

Before his career change to Talent Acquisition Tom also held Food and Beverage leadership positions for Starwood and the Peninsula hotel groups.

In 2001 Tom pivoted to the staffing industry and spent 5 years honing his talent acquisition skills with United Staffing Systems, where he created a healthcare division covering hospitals and medical office practices throughout New Jersey.  He has since spent several years in academic medicine, serving on in-house recruitment teams at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle; New York Presbyterian and Memorial Sloan Cancer Center and currently Hospital for Special Surgery, all in NYC. Tom has held Senior Recruiter, Leadership and Physician Recruiter, Associate Director And Director titles.  

In 2009, Tom completed his Master’s in Human Resources Policy at SUNY-Empire State College and his thesis on transgender workplace inclusion practices has been cited in several publications and educational resources.

In recent years, Tom has completed over 6 half marathons and in 2019, Tom completed the New York City Marathon. And this year he secured a place in the Chicago Marathon in October.
