Healthcare and retail continue to take the lead. Seasonal hiring us upon us. The Royal Mail needs (a lot) of bodies. Some signs of life in travel & hospitality

Healthcare

  • Maine, USA: Athenahealth is looking to hire roughly 100 people for a variety of jobs at their Belfast location. Officials with athenahealth’s Belfast office say they helped providers and practices across the country thrive through the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Pennsylvania, USA: Pets need people: Pet supply eretailer Chewy is looking to hire more than 500 employees for its distribution centers by the end of the year
  • USA: CVS Health plans to hire 15,000 workers nationwide to help handle the flu season and growing cases of COVID-19. Positions will include pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurse practitioners, call-center representatives, and work-from-home customer service employees.

Retail

  • North America: Target is planning to hire about 130,000 seasonal team members this year.
  • USA: JCPenney is, A: still in business B: hiring for the holidays - more than 100,000 people. They’re having a national hiring event that starts today and goes through Thursday. Candidates can apply in person or on their website.
  • USA: Retail giant Walmart is hiring more than 20,000 seasonal employees to work in its fulfillment centers across the country.

Travel & Leisure

  • Japan: At a time most airlines are shedding jobs, there is one that’s hiring—a new low-cost carrier called Zipair Tokyo Inc. The unit of Japan Airlines Company will take on around 100 employees as it launches passenger flights between Tokyo and cities including Bangkok and Seoul, a JAL spokesman said Friday. We love the optimism. Maybe they’ll set up flights to Texas, for some ax tossing and… safari?
  • Texas, USA: Axe-Throwing Lodge Whiskey Hatchett in Deep Ellum (that's the part of Dallas where people's jeans are skinny) is adding 'Axe-Perts' and bartenders.
  • Texas, USA: Kalahari Resorts, an “authentically African, all-under-one-roof vacation experience, including America's largest indoor waterpark, Tom Foolery Adventure Park, beautiful convention space, 975 rooms, and five signature restaurants," is set to open November 12th, and looking for 700 new hires.

Tech

  • USA: Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced Thursday that the tech giant will be hiring 10,000 new employees as part of its ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. The company declined to say how many positions will be in each city or the types of roles that will be filled but said it will start hiring 1,000 workers across its Chicago, New York, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C. offices by next year.
  • World: Amazon is also hiring despite the crisis (or, let's be fair: because of the crisis). The company is currently hiring more than 100,000 people for its distribution centers, and another 30,000 white-collar and IT roles.

Gig Economy

  • Ireland: Food delivery service Just Eat is to recruit 700 additional couriers in the Republic to support an anticipated rise in online ordering during the lockdown. Just Eat, whose app has been downloaded more than 2.5 million times in the Republic over the past six years, said it had delivered €1 million worth of supports for Irish restaurants in recent months. The Dutch-based company beat out Uber in July to acquire Grubhub for $7.3 billion to create largest food delivery firm outside China

Shipping & Transportation

  • Global: FedEx reports that it will need to hire tens of thousands of additional employees to help manage this year’s peak shipping season. They’re looking for temporary warehouse employees, couriers, and administrative employees.
  • Global: UPS has announced plans to hire about 100,000 seasonal workers to manage the anticipated increase in package volume from October through January 2021. The full- and part-time positions available include package handlers, drivers, driver-helpers, and personal vehicle drivers.
  • UK: Royal Mail is to hire a record 33,000 temporary workers for the Christmas period – two-thirds more than usual – to handle the UK festive parcel frenzy triggered by the surge in online shopping.

Financial Services

  • USA: Fidelity Investments is seeking to fill approximately 4,000 new client-facing positions across the U.S. over the next six months due to “unprecedented customer growth and engagement” in its business.
