Finding the right job candidates can be a challenging task for recruitment professionals. With a growing pool of applicants, it can be difficult to sift through resumes and find individuals who are truly the best fit for a company. However, there are several creative resources that you can utilize to find the right job candidates and improve the hiring process.

Employee Referrals

One of the most effective ways to find top job candidates is through employee referrals, and while this has been true for a long time, there are new, modern ways to use it in 2023.

Encouraging current employees to refer friends and colleagues can help to bring in a pool of highly qualified candidates who may not have otherwise applied. But how do you incentivize them to do that?

  1. Monetary Rewards: Money talks, right? Just be careful with these programs. Have confidence in your employees, and pay bonuses right away, not after a probation period. They’ll bring some of your best employees, so reward them accordingly.
  2. Time Off: Offer employees extra paid time off for each successful referral. Be generous with this offer, even offering as much as a week off per referral.
  3. Gift Cards: Provide employees with gift cards for popular retailers or restaurants. Try to focus on local retailers and restaurants in your area to show your support for your local economy.
  4. Professional Development Opportunities: Offer employees access to training, conferences, or workshops as a reward for referring successful candidates. This can help them further their own careers while contributing to the company's success and can include online courses, college tuition credits, and even courses that provide digital credentials.
  5. Recognition: Offer public recognition for employees who make successful referrals. This can be in the form of a mention in the company newsletter, an award ceremony, or even a special event. Showcasing their efforts and successes can help motivate employees to continue referring top talent to the company.

Employee referrals are still some of the best employees you will find, and you can be creative in giving them reasons to bring their friends and those in their network to your company.

Social Media

Social media is a powerful tool that can be used by recruitment to reach out to potential job candidates. Sites such as LinkedIn and Twitter can be used to post job openings, network with individuals in relevant fields, and find potential candidates.

And while you might not think of looking for work through TikTok or YouTube, many young candidates are watching your business on those platforms and finding out about the culture and opportunities in your company. This helps you attract the right candidates who already understand who you are.

Employee Engagement Programs

Employee engagement programs can help to create a positive company culture and provide opportunities for employees to get involved in the hiring process. Encouraging employees to attend job fairs, participate in recruiting events, or refer friends and colleagues can help to bring in top talent and improve the hiring process.

In a digital world, this is much easier than it has been. Your employees have social media accounts with many more followers than yours and a large network you may not be able to reach without them. And if they are working remotely, they may even have connections in locations where you have not established a presence yet.

While employee engagement may not seem creative, it can be one of the most innovative ways to find candidates, especially when combined with employee referral programs.

Collaboration with Universities and Colleges

Working with universities and colleges can provide a valuable resource when looking to find top job candidates.

While this can seem like an old method, you can do new things with it. Many universities rent out office and business space to employers in underused campus facilities. This can help you connect more directly with students and staff, and recruit candidates even before they graduate.

Additionally, if you offer mentorships and other programs, you can do so on-site, and know if potential employees are a good fit before they enter the job market. These recent graduates are often eager to enter the workforce and may have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in your industry right away.

Employee Resource Groups

Employee resource groups can provide a valuable way to find top job candidates. These groups provide opportunities for employees to network, participate in professional development programs, and engage in other activities that build relationships with potential future employees. They can include:

  1. Health and wellness programs, such as gym memberships and wellness challenges, even in partnership with other companies and groups
  2. Professional development programs, such as training and certification opportunities, mentorship programs, and leadership workshops especially those in your community
  3. Diversity and inclusion programs, such as diversity training, affinity groups, and tickets to cultural events
  4. Team-building activities held at various locations and in partnerships with community organizations and businesses

Employee resources don’t have to be boring, and they can be creative ways to engage potential candidates in a non-business and stress-free environment.

In conclusion, there are many creative resources that recruitment teams can utilize to find the right job candidates. By leveraging them, companies can improve the hiring process, find top talent, and create a positive company culture. Whether it's through employee referrals, social media, or employee engagement programs, there are many tools available to creatively find the right job candidates by simply thinking outside the box.
