Who's Hiring Where? 10/19/2020

The theme right now is "retail + seasonal". And that's a potential issue: Indeed reports that people looking for seasonal work is down 38% right now - the speculation is that a number of people are nervous about taking high-risk roles with limited pay on a temporary basis. Here's the run-down of who's hiring:

  • Macy's: the "we're not dead yet" retailer is holding seasonal hiring events nationwide. The largest-to-date occurs October 22, hiring more than 1400 seasonal colleagues this holiday season to fill positions at stores, call centers, and fulfillment centers in Ohio. To provide a safe hiring experience amid the coronavirus crisis, Macy’s is hosting its National Hiring Event social distance style by conducting all interviews for in-store opportunities over the phone. One of these in-store positions is a new role focused on picking and packing contact-free curbside pickup and same-day delivery orders.
  • Amazon: because of course they are. The behemoth continues its push to fill 100,000 full and part-time roles in regional operations centers, along with 30,000 white-collar and IT roles.
  • Dominos: In a sign people may be deciding to self-isolate a bit more as cases surge nationwide, the pizza delivery chain reports an increased need. Domino’s stores in the Las Vegas Valley, for example, are still looking to hire more than 200 team members. The positions include delivery drivers, customer service representatives, assistant managers and managers, according to a press release.
  • Williams Sonoma: The high-end culinary retailer is hiring hundreds of part-time, work-from-home, customer service reps. The roles are advertised as paying $14 per hour, and incentivized with a 40% discount.
  • Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s: The pandemic had an interesting side-effect: people started picking up lots of hobbies. There was a shortage of bikes for a period, and good luck adopting a dog. Outdoor retailers have benefited. Bass Pro Shops & Cabela's held a national hiring event on Oct. 15 to hire 7,000 employees nationally
  • Best Buy: Hiring thousands of workers for jobs including sales, customer service, merchandising inventory and car install technicians, along with positions in the retailer's distribution centers.
  • Dick's Sporting Goods: speaking of hobbies, the company is hiring as many as 9,000 workers for the holidays, increasing its seasonal workforce by more than 1,000 from last year, the retailer said in a press release.
  • 1-800-Flowers.com: Maybe it's all the e-dating people are being forced to do. Or, maybe it's because in lieu of "self" we're sending plants to our in-laws for Thanksgiving. Regardless, the flower-delivery powerhouse plans to hire more than 10,000 to work in gift assembly and customer service — quadrupling its workforce to meet holiday demand.
  • Walmart: Plans to  hire more than 20,000 seasonal workers for its e-commerce fulfillment centers across the country.
  • Target: Not to be outdone, the mega-retailer is adding 130,000 seasonal workers on par with its holiday hiring in in 2019.
  • Hobby Lobby: Again, with the hobbies. The retailer is hiring 14,000 seasonal employees. It's already hired around 10,500 at its 923 arts-and-crafts stores this year.
  • Home Depot & Lowe's: continue to hire across the country right now.
A run-down on the latest hiring events.
