Dr. David L. Di Maria currently serves as the inaugural Associate Vice Provost for International Education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where he leads institutional strategy for global engagement. Previously, he served as Associate Provost for International Programs at Montana State University and Director of International Programs and Services at Kent State University.
As an international education scholar-practitioner, Dr. Di Maria regularly presents, publishes and consults on critical issues impacting international higher education. He has written more than 40 articles, book chapters, essays and technical publications. His latest book, Senior International Officers: Essential Roles and Responsibilities, focuses on the professionalization of the position of chief international education administrator.
Dr. Di Maria is an invited member of the American Council on Education’s Commission on Internationalization and Global Engagement, and he serves on the editorial boards of various academic journals in the field of international education. He also holds elected leadership positions within the Association of Public and Land-grant University’s Commission on International Initiatives and NAFSA’s International Education Leadership Knowledge Community. Dr. Di Maria earned a doctorate from the University of Minnesota, where his studies examined internationalization from a P-16 perspective. His scholarly expertise focuses on international student mobility trends, international enrollment management and structures to support internationalization strategy.
